New Line Cinema Gets Behind Steve Alten's MEG

Posted on June 1, 2005

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water.... The film rights to the New York Times bestseller MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten have been optioned by New Line Cinema for a fast-track release of July 4th, 2006 release, to be directed by Jan De Bont (Twister). Alten's new publisher, Tsunami Books, purchased the rights back from Doubleday, then turned it around to New Line.

It looks like the story of a giant prehistoric shark found lurking in the deep-ocean Marianna Trench is going to be terrifying moviegoers everywhere next summer. A reedited and expanded paperback version of MEG will be re-released in paperback in July 2005, featuring a new cover with a T-Rex being devoured by a Megalodon. Steve's latest spine-tingling thriller is The Loch. You can read our interview with the always entertaining Steve Alten here.
