New National Amusements Pocket Books Summer Library Reading Program
Posted on July 7, 1998
For the fourth consecutive summer, National Amusements is lending corporate support to public libraries, helping public librarians do what they do best -- turning kids on to books. This summer National Amusements is partnering with Pocket Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, to offer children added incentives for reading during their summer vacation.
The program's theme this summer is "Give A Book To Charity, Get A Free Book And A Free Movie Screening." Children participating in the summer library reading program will be encouraged to donate a book to the library's charity of choice. In exchange for the donated book, each child will receive a brand new book from Minstrel Books, a division of Pocket Books, and a free movie screening from National Amusements. Simon & Schuster is donating 3,000 paperback books to promote the program. National expects more than 150 libraries across the country to participate in the program this summer.
"Once again we are proud to sponsor the library reading program this summer. We believe it plays a vital role in helping to promote literacy," said Shari E. Redstone, executive vice president of National Amusements, Inc. "The level of enthusiasm we receive from the libraries and children participating in this program is phenomenal."
Nancy Pines, vice-president and Publisher of the Pocket Books young adult imprints of Archway Paperbacks and Minstrel(R) Books, states, "We're really pleased to be a part of this reading incentive program in partnership with National Amusements and public librarians. It's important to show kids that adults in their community place a high priority on connecting kids to books. That's a strong positive signal to send."
