New York Times Company Announces Raymond E. Douglas Appointment

The New York Times Company announced that Raymond E. Douglas, currently vice president, systems and technology for The New York Times newspaper, was named vice president, information systems and technology, for The Times Company, effective January 1, 1998. The announcement was made by Michael Golden, vice chairman and senior vice president, to whom Mr. Douglas will report.

In his new role, Mr. Douglas will be responsible for the Company's information systems and technology, including business, production and publishing systems. He will lead a staff with diverse technical and professional skills to develop, communicate and implement a plan to ensure that the Company's systems development and technology activities will meet the Company's business and strategic objectives.

Reporting to Mr. Douglas will be Jack Hayon, vice president, systems. In addition to other projects, Mr. Hayon is responsible for ensuring that the Company's plans for addressing its Year 2000 issues are implemented on schedule.
