Obama Wants Internet Breakthrough That's As Cool as Walking on the Moon

Posted on April 20, 2011

TechCrunch has a report on President Obama's words at a Facebook Town Hall event. Obama said he wants people to get a moonwalk feeling out of the next big energy or Internet breakthrough.

"I always hear stories about how we can't find engineers, and that's why we're emphasizing Math and Science ... We want to start making Science cool. I want people to feel about the next big energy breakthrough and the next big Internet breakthrough the same way they felt about the moonwalk."
The concept of making Science cool is truly wonderful, but an Internet breakthrough seems unlikely to be cool enough to be able generate a feeling as strong as the first time humans walked on the moon. We will probably have to walk on Mars to do that. Sorry, Internet.
