Oprah Supports the Troops' Growing Families

Posted on September 22, 2004

Oprah Winfrey made hundreds of cash-strapped women happy last week when she gave away Pontiacs to 276 audience members. Now, Oprah has given the World's Biggest Baby Shower. The lucky recipients are the 640 pregnant wives of soldiers in the 101st Airborne Division - all with due dates between now and the end of the year. With appearances by superstar moms like Sharon Stone and Cindy Crawford, Oprah brought helpful and generous gifts for the overjoyed moms-to-be.

Said Oprah, "It's a way of honoring the sacrifice without doing a lot of big speeches and oh la la la la. ... It's a way of saying, 'We see you. We hear you. We know what you do to make our lives safer and we thank you for it.'" The event was taped for Oprah's show and is scheduled to air September 28th.

Oprah's current Book Club pick is Anna Karenina.
