Page Likes to Decrease as Facebook Removes Deactivated Accounts

Posted on March 6, 2015

Owners of Facebook Pages are likely to see a decrease in the number of likes in the coming weeks. Facebook has warned users that Page likes are going to decrease as it removes deactivated accounts. The company is removing memorialized and voluntarily deactived accounts from Pages' like counts.

Deactivated accounts are different than deleted accounts. If a person deactivates their Facebook account they can still return to it at a future date. However, deleting an account is permanent.

Facebook says in a statement that Page admins will likely see a dip in Page likes, but they say it will be a "small dip."

Facebook says, "Over the coming weeks, Page admins should expect to see a small dip in their number of Page likes as a result of this update. It’s important to remember, though, that these removed likes represent people who were already inactive on Facebook."

It is a good thing they are warning Page admins ahead of time. Some admins may have freaked out otherwise.
