Posted on January 9, 1998

Dow Jones & Company announced that Paul J. Ingrassia has been named president of Dow Jones Newswires, effective immediately. In his new role, Mr. Ingrassia will report to Peter R. Kann, chairman and CEO of Dow Jones, and Kenneth L. Burenga, president and COO. As head of Dow Jones Newswires, Mr. Ingrassia succeeds Carl M. Valenti, whose retirement from Dow Jones later this year was announced on December 30.

Mr. Ingrassia, 47, has been executive editor of Dow Jones Newswires since 1995 and chief operating officer of the unit since 1996. A Dow Jones employee since 1977, Mr.Ingrassia, a former Wall Street Journal senior editor and bureau chief, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1993 (along with his Journal colleague Joseph B. White) for coverage of management turmoil at General Motors Corp. Messrs. Ingrassia and White are also the authors of the book "Comeback: The Fall and Rise of the American Automobile Industry" (1994).

Mr. Kann said, "We're delighted to have Paul Ingrassia at the helm of Dow Jones Newswires as electronic delivery of Dow Jones news enters its second century. Under Paul's operational leadership in 1997, the Dow Jones News Service in the U.S. passed the 200,000 subscriber mark for the first time, and we agreed to extend our newswire partnership around the world with Associated Press. We look forward to further progress from Dow Jones Newswires in 1998 and beyond."
