Precious Wins Two Academy Awards

The film, Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire, won two Oscars at the 82nd Academy Awards including Best Adapted Screenplay for Geoffrey Fletcher. Actress Mo'Nique won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as an abusive mother.

As the film's name clearly indicates the movie is based on novel, Push, written by Sapphire. The book and film are about Precious Jones, an illiterate sixteen-year-old, who has a father who rapes her and mother who batters her. The authorities dismiss her as just one more of Harlem's casualties. Precious, pregnant with a second child by her father, meets a determined teacher who teacher her how to write about her life and but how to make it truly her own for the first time.
