She's only twelve years old, but she's already been nominated for an Oscar for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild. She also got rave reviews for her performance in 12 Years a Slave. Now Quvenzhane Wallis has inked a four book publishing deal with Simon & Schuster.
Simon & Schuster picked up the rights to three chapter books and a picture book. The first book will be released in January, 2017, and will be loosely based on Quvenzhane's life. The chapter books focus on a spunky third grader named Shai Williams, who "has a flair for the dramatic . . . both onstage and off." Shai is an actress, dreaming of being a star. The publisher says the series is meant for ages six and up who are fans of Clementine and Judy Moody.
The chapter book will focus on Shai and her mother going to a big awards show. The duo will get dressed in fabulous gowns, take a limo to the show and walk the red carpet. Quvenzhane had this to say about her new publishing venture: "Reading is very important. It allows people to form a visual experience in their minds of what is going on in the story. I hope all readers enjoy using their imaginations along with me and take a journey into my books."
Quvenzhane career is on fire. After starring in the remake of Annie, her next project is starring in the feature film version of Holly Goldberg Sloan's bestselling novel Counting by 7's. She will play Willow Chance, a young girl who must rebuild her life after her parents are killed in a car accident.
