Recent Editorial Changes in the Media

  • Reed Business Information (RBI) has promoted Tad Smith to Executive Vice President of Reed Business Information in the United States. Reporting to the CEO of RBI-US, Smith is a member of the Executive Management Committee, and is both President of the Media Division and Chief Executive Officer of Reed Construction Data, a leading construction information company. Smith arrived at RBI in 2000, when it was called Cahners, as President of its Internet operations. Late in 2000, he was promoted to President of the Media Division. In late 2002, the retail group was added to his portfolio, including such franchises as JCK, Interior Design, and Home Textiles Today among others.
  • After 34 years with the Philadelphia Daily News and more than 20 years as its editor, Zack Stalberg is stepping down to seek a fresh challenge. He will continue to be a consultant to Philadelphia Newspapers Inc. and its parent company, Knight Ridder. His last day as editor is Feb. 11. Publisher Joe Natoli immediately named Managing Editor Michael Days as the new editor for the Daily News. Stalberg, a native Philadelphian, joined the Daily News in late 1971, shortly after the Knight brothers acquired the News and The Inquirer. He became city editor in 1975 and editor in 1984. In addition to being editor of the News, Stalberg, 57, is an executive vice president of PNI.
  • Gary Anderson has been named Executive Vice President of the San Francisco Chronicle, it was announced by Frank Vega, Publisher and CEO. Anderson assumes the position effective January 31, 2005. Anderson was previously Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Detroit Newspapers.
