Rizzoli Opens New Flagship Bookstore in New York City

Posted on July 25, 2015

Rizzoli has opened a new flagship bookstore in New York City. The store is located at 1133 Broadway in New York City's NoMad district. The 5,000 square foot bookstore is three blocks north of Madison Square Park.

Rizzoli is known for its attractive coffee table books covering fashion, art, design, architecture and photograph. It also has several imprints, including Rizzoli Universe, which covers pop-culture, and Ex Lbris, which publishes literary fiction and nonfiction.

The design of the new bookstore was led by Thomas A. Kligerman from the design firm Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects. The bookstore has an 18' tall by 34' wide glass facade. The interior features eighteen-foot ceilings, a peaked skylight and a windowed salon. Fornasetti Milano designed wallpaper exclusively for the new store. The wallpaper designs run as a frieze above the bookcases to the ceiling and feature motifs of Italian cities floating in the clouds, hot air balloons and Zodiac figures.

Laura Donnini, CEO of RCS Libri, the book publishing arm of the Milan based RCS MediaGroup, says in a statement, "For more than 50 years, the Rizzoli bookstore has attracted discerning patrons from around the globe and provided beautifully produced volumes on art, design, interiors, fashion, as well as literature, and important non-fiction books. We believe we have found the perfect location for our new flagship bookstore and we look forward to joining this vibrant community of innovative thinkers."
