Rolling Stone Changes to Standard Magazine Size

Posted on September 12, 2008

The magazine industry has been going through some very hard times. Ad sales are down and magazine ad pages have been curtailed. The New York Times reports that the print magazine version of Rolling Stone will be shrinking. The Times articles notes that magazines printing smaller pages is a trend that coincides with the downward spiral in ad revenues. It may be cheaper for advertisers to place ads when they have less sizes to worry about. This is certainly the case with online banner advertising.

The Times also says that magazine size "has become increasingly standardized, at around 8 by 11 inches." This is also the size the Rolling Stone is moving to.

Brand Republic picks out some of the noteworthy facts from the Times story. The smaller size should help Rolling Stone sell more single copy issues as it will fit better on retailer magazine displays. The first of the smaller Rolling Stone issues will go on sale October 17th.
