The arrival Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's new baby boy helped the The Daily Mail website receive its most traffic ever for one day. The Guardian reports that dailymail.co.uk received 10.57 million unique visitors on Monday. This is 1 million more (about 10% more) unique visitors than its previous biggest day, which came during the day of the Boston Marathon bombing. The Daily Mail has been doing a great job covering U.S. news as well.
The Guardian also says traffic to UK news and media websites overall was 94 million unique users on Monday, which is about 47% greater than an average day.
Twitter also recorded a spike in tweets on the day of the news story. The #royalbaby hashtag became the main hashtag for the royal birth. Twitter says there were over 25,300 Tweets per minute during the tweet peak, which came shortly after the birth was announced.
