Posted on February 9, 1998

Scholastic Inc., publishers of a variety of Star Wars Trilogy books and a series of "Star Wars Journals," has licensed the rights to publish an extensive line of digest children's books based on future Star Wars films from Lucasfilm Ltd., it was announced by Barbara Marcus, Executive Vice President, Scholastic Books. The new agreement gives Scholastic exclusive rights to juvenile digest titles based on the three new Star Wars movies, the first of which is scheduled to be released in May 1999.

"Our relationship with Lucasfilm has been wonderful, and this new agreement reaffirms our commitment to the Star Wars saga with a focused publishing agenda built on Scholastic's proven strength in digest novels and continuity programs," explained Marcus. "We are incredibly excited about continuing this relationship with Lucasfilm into the next millennium!"

Under the new agreement, Scholastic will publish three sets of Star Wars books in the digest format, including novelizations of all three, films in the next Star Wars trilogy, additional titles in the Star Wars Journals, and a new, original junior fiction series. The new books represent an ongoing series that will be published over a period of years coinciding with the release of the next three Star Wars movies, which are prequels to the original Star Wars Trilogy.
