Scholastic and Purple Moon to Create Book Series for Pre-Teen Girls

Posted on August 10, 1998

Scholastic Inc., the world's leading publisher and distributor of children's books, and Purple Moon, a girls' entertainment company, announced that Scholastic will publish a new line of books based on Purple Moon's Rockett series of CD-ROM and Internet "friendship adventures for girls."

The book series will feature Purple Moon's more than 20 true-to-life characters in the fictitious world of Whistling Pines Jr. High. The Rockett series marks the first time in Scholastic's history that the publisher will develop a line of books from an interactive-based character franchise.

As with Purple Moon's breakthrough CD-ROM and Internet "friendship adventures," the Rockett book series will feature characters, story lines and situations that reflect the most important themes and issues in girls' lives today.

Future plans include publishing an additional title at least every third month following the launch. In addition, Purple Moon will continue to release new Rockett series CD-ROM titles and online adventures to coincide with the launch of the Rockett book series.
