Scholastic Corp. announced the formation of a new publishing unit, Scholastic Consumer and Professional Magazines. Scholastic Executive Vice President Hugh Roome has been named head of the new group that will encompass Scholastic existing consumer and professional magazines and marketing properties and will focus on developing and acquiring new magazines targeted to children, parents and teachers.

"Scholastic's unique ability to integrate its businesses -- children's publishing, education, media and entertainment -- enables us to understand and adapt to a changing marketplace. The creation of this new unit will allow us to further capitalize on our track record in developing specialized magazine properties for both the consumer and professional markets," said Richard Robinson, Chairman, President and CEO of Scholastic Corporation. "It will also enable us to expand one of our core businesses while concentrating on developing new publications aimed at our main constituents, teachers, children and parents.

Scholastic Consumer and Professional Magazines will include Scholastic's professional and parenting magazines: Coach, Instructor, Electronic Learning, Early Childhood Today and Parent and Child. These titles, with a combined circulation of over 1.5 million, represent important franchises for the Company and will be expanded under this new organization.
