Scholastic Inc. has announced that it has acquired Soccer Jr. magazine and other assets of Triplepoint, Inc., a publisher of soccer magazines for children, parents and coaches. Hugh Roome, Executive Vice President of Scholastic, made the announcement. The acquisition will bring to Scholastic the flagship publication, Soccer Jr., as well as Soccer for Parents and Coaches Editions magazines and the companion websites.

Hugh Roome stated, "This purchase will further build upon Scholastic's company-wide commitment to promote athletics for children, by providing more high-quality sports magazines and Internet sites that meet the growing popularity of youth soccer." Roome continued, "Scholastic's powerful magazine publishing division will expand the visibility and readership of these publications through our unparalleled school-based and school-to-home distribution channels, reaching 25 million children, 40 million parents and nearly every classroom in the U.S. We believe that these publications will also drive significant audiences to our newly acquired sports websites."

Founded in 1992, and published as a bimonthly subscription-based publication, Soccer Jr. reaches more than 500,000 boy and girl soccer enthusiasts from 8 to 14 years old. Soccer Jr. includes current news about the sport, interviews with star players, profiles, games and instructional and training tips.
