Scholastic and Lego Extend Book Deal Through 2019

Posted on October 6, 2015

Scholastic and Lego have extended their book publishing relationship through 2019. Scholastic and The Lego Group have had a publishing relationship for over twelve years. The publishing agreement will now include world all language rights.

There are over 45 million Scholastic Lego books in print. Scholastic will be publishing books based on the following Lego franchises: City, Ninjago, Bionicle, Elves, Friends, Lego Star Wars and Lego DC. The above book, LEGO: The LEGO Movie: The Piece of Resistance, was published by Scholastic in December 2013.

Scholastic will publish Lego nonfiction books with illustrated Lego minifigures in topics including planets, knights and castles, dinosaurs and the ocean. The first Lego pop-up book will be published in September 2016 from award-winning paper engineer Matthew Reinhart. Scholastic will also publish Lego movie tie-in books based on Lego feature films.

Ellie Berger, President, Scholastic Trade, says in the announcement, "The Lego Group and Scholastic are completely aligned in encouraging kids to be creative, to become life-long readers and to be bold and use their imaginations. I am so proud to continue our longtime relationship, to expand our global reach, and to publish innovative new projects with LEGO Publishing."

Lego has not published solely with Scholastic over the year. They announced a publishing deal with Little, Brown earlier this year.
