Scholastic's Instructor Magazine Launches Offshoot Publication

Posted on March 27, 2001

Scholastic Inc., a children's publishing and media company, has launched Instructor New Teacher Magazine. In developing the magazine's editorial content, Scholastic conducted research with new teachers regarding their jobs. The research revealed that overall new teachers believed their training did not go far enough, they felt alone, with few mentors and they were overwhelmed by parent and classroom management.

The publication, which is free and geared to new teachers, is distributed twice a year to schools, libraries and educational entities. The spring issue can be obtained on Scholastic's Instructor website.

``Instructor New Teacher provides new teachers with just the right tools to help them feel more successful and proud of their first year in the classroom,'' says Terry Cooper, Editor-in-Chief. ``Our hope is that we can give teachers extra support to help them feel more confident and professional -- so that they can grow in their chosen career, make significant contributions to children and families, and enjoy all the rewards that teaching has to offer.''

Instructor New Teacher's editorial calendar delves into such areas as: lesson planning tips, professional online teaching tools, classroom management, finding a mentor, communicating with parents and administrators and more. Instructor New Teacher Magazine is a sister publication of Instructor Magazine, a subscriber-based publication with a circulation this year of more than 200,000.
