SNL Cold Open: Jason Sudeikis Returns as Mitt Romney
Posted on March 6, 2016
Saturday Night Live's cold open was very funny and quite on point. First we get a look at Jake Tapper (Beck Bennett) who let us know that by CNN standards he passes as a "bona fide hunk." He took us to Donald Trump's (Darrell Hammond's) press conference in which "sad, desperate little potato" Chris Christie (Bobby Moynihan) looks completely demoralized as he stands behind Trump and gets insulted.
We also saw Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton thanking her supporters and telling all those voters who hate her and have refused to vote for her over the years, "There are clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right...and here you are, stuck in the middle with ME!!!"
We also got to see Taran Killam do his killer Ted Cruz impersonation -- he just amazing, getting all the facial tics down pat. He even added a crazed laugh.
But our favorite part was the return of Mittens himself. Jason Sudeikis showed up as Romney to say, "That’s right, America. I’m back. You didn’t ask for it, but you got it!" Romney did ten women's pushups and swigged some nonalcolohic Kahlua before giving his blistering takedown of that "flimflam man" Donald Trump.
Romney blasted Trump for his racist and sexist statements saying, "We at the GOP, the party of the great Ronald Reagan, we do not say racist or sexist things. We imply them subtly over decades and decades of policy, so I felt that I had to take matters into my own tanned, well-manicured hands and follow the advice of my favorite rapster Macklemore." When asked what his message to Donald Trump is, he replied, "You're duplicitous. You're reckless, and if you become the Republican nominee...I would make a great vice-president."
