Spike Jonze Wins WGA Award for Best Original Screenplay for Her

The 2014 Writers Guild Awards ceremony took place Saturday night in Los Angeles. Spike Jonze won best Original Screenplay for Her which stars Joaquin Phoenix as a man who falls in love with his computer's operating system, whose voice is played by Scarlett Johansson.

Billy Ray won best Adapted Screenplay for Captain Phillips. The film is based on the book A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea by Richard Phillips with Stephan Talty.

Spike Jonze also won best screenplay at the 2014 Golden Globes. He is nominated for an Oscar in the Best Original Screenplay category. Billy Ray is also nominated for an Oscar in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.

Sarah Polley won Best Documentary Screenplay for Stories We Tell. In the TV-New Media-Radio category, Breaking Bad's writers Sam Catlin, Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, Gennifer Hutchison, George Mastras, Thomas Schnauz,and Moira Walley-Beckett picked up the award for Best Drama Series. For Best Comedy Series, Veep's writers Simon Blackwell, Roger Drew, Sean Gray, Armando Iannucci, Ian Martin, Georgia Pritchett, David Quantick, Tony Roche, and Will Smith sailed to victory.
