TaxPlanet.com, an independent tax resource for individuals on the Web, was launched today. The free online service was created by former New York Times tax columnist Gary Klott.
"Our intent is to provide a truly comprehensive, year-round tax resource for consumers," said Klott. "Whether you're working on your tax return or have a tax question any other time of year, we'll provide plain-English explanations of the tax law with analysis and tax-saving ideas from some of the nation's leading tax experts. And at the click of your mouse, you can access the relevant IRS publications and other official tax references for the topic you're reading. We'll alert you to approaching tax deadlines. We'll keep you posted on important rulings from the IRS and the courts. And we'll provide full coverage of the upcoming tax debates in Congress and the presidential election campaign so you have an idea of what tax changes might be in store in the future."
The site offers daily tax news, weekly "hot tips," tax season help, year-round tax-planning guide, coverage of tax legislation in Congress and the presidential election campaign, a reference guide to key tax facts, tax calendar and a tax reference library that offers access to tax forms, IRS publications, Congressional bills and other tax documents.
Since the early 1980s, Gary Klott's tax features and personal finance columns have appeared in hundreds of newspapers. At the New York Times, Klott served as a business reporter and columnist in New York and Washington, D.C., where he specialized in coverage of tax legislation in Congress. Klott is the author of three financial guides published by Times Books/Random House: The New York Times Complete Guide to the New Tax Law, The Complete Financial Guide to the 1990s, and The New York Times Complete Guide to Personal Investing.
