The Net Economy Ceases Publication

Posted on May 31, 2002

Ziff Davis Media has ceased publishing The Net Economy magazine. Advanstar Communications Inc. will acquire the assets of The Net Economy and incorporate them into America's Network. The two companies have also agreed to cross-sell and market each other's b-to-b technology-related assets. Ziff Davis Media has ceased publishing several titles over the past 12 months, including Smart Partner, Interactive Week (which merged into eWeek), Expedia Travel and Family PC. Ziff Davis also ceased publishing Smart Business just last month.

The incorporation of The Net Economy assets into America's Network will strengthen Advanstar's coverage of the telecom audience with the addition of The Net Economy's subscriber base. Ziff Davis Media's Corporate Sales team will also include America's Network in its multi-title print sales efforts. The Net Economy will cease publication with its May 20th issue.

The promotion and selling alliance between the Companies will include Ziff Davis Media's PC Magazine, eWEEK, CIO Insight, and Baseline publications, and Advanstar's AIIM, On Demand, ICCM, eLearning, Frontline Solutions and Collaborate tradeshows and conferences.

"Our alliance with Advanstar will enable us to offer customers the ability to reach purchasing decision makers for public and private networks through a powerful portfolio of media assets," said Robert F. Callahan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ziff Davis Media.

Robert L. Krakoff, Chairman and CEO, Advanstar Communications, said, "The combination of The Net Economy's assets with our long-established America's Network will create a new powerhouse in the telecom sector. Plus, our sales alliance with Ziff Davis Media will provide technology vendors with an unrivaled opportunity to reach their buyers throughout the U.S."
