Posted on January 28, 2000

Steve Pippin, president of Out Publishing, Inc., has announced the promotion, effective immediately, of Tom Beer to editor in chief of Out magazine. Beer, 33, has been executive editor at Out since June 1999. Since coming to the magazine in 1994, he has also held the positions of managing editor and deputy editor. Beer began his editorial career at Bantam Books in 1990.

"Tom is uniquely qualified to build on Out's success," said Pippin. "I am confident that under his leadership Out will reach an even higher level of excellence."

"I am very excited by this opportunity to guide the editorial vision of Out," said Beer. "Out will continue to set the pace in gay and lesbian publishing as the premier authority on gay and lesbian life. I look forward to the challenge."

Out is a general-interest gay and lesbian magazine. In eight years since its launch in 1992, Out has grown to become the largest in its niche, with an audited circulation of 115,000. Out is published by Out Publishing, Inc., which also publishes HIV Plus, a bimonthly magazine devoted to HIV and AIDS research, prevention, and treatment.
