Trent Lott Finds His Refrigerator

Posted on September 30, 2005

Here is a fascinating bit of news about Senator Trent Lott's demolished home from Hurricane Katrina. The devastating hurricane destroyed Lott's home in Pascagoula, Mississippi. But surprisingly his refrigerator survived intact.

Lott told NBC News that he found his refrigerator blocks away from where his home used to be. Lott says, "I found my refrigerator, from my kitchen. It went down the street two blocks, turned left and went into a neighbor's yard."

The NBC News story doesn't have any more on Lott's refrigerator, but U.S. News has more. Lott says his wife used to post photographs on the refrigerator using magnets and they were still there when he found it. The magnets likely made the refrigerator much easier to recognize.

Lott told U.S. News, "The pictures that my wife had put on there with those magnetic things? Intact. It was so amazing. "I opened it, and two bottles of champagne that we had saved from my daughter's wedding a few years earlier were just sitting there pretty as you please."

Now, if only he had a lovely front porch upon which to sit and enjoy a glass of the surviving champagne. Perhaps President Bush could even stop by. Somehow, I don't think Bill Frist will be invited, though, even assuming he's not doing time for insider trading.
