Viking and Penguin Launch the VP Book Club

Posted on August 17, 2007

Viking Press and Penguin Books have launched a new website called vpbookclub.com (no longer available). The site features book recommendations each month, including a Penguin classic selection. The site also includes posts from authors, editors, and other publishing staffers and readers' guides. There is also a newsletter. The books will include bestsellers, but also some overlooked gems, according to the publishers.

The LibraryThing Blog calls the new site a "gorgeous mistake." The blog rips the site for its heavy use of Flash, which is frequently used in the fashion world. Flash sites may look pretty but they have very poor usability.

This post was updated to note that the website is no longer available.
