Virtual Reality Facebook Demonstrated on Jimmy Kimmel

Posted on September 5, 2015

Facebook announced the acquisition of Oculus VR last year. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at the time that VR could be a new communication platform.

Zuckerberg said, "By feeling truly present, you can share unbounded spaces and experiences with the people in your life. Imagine sharing not just moments with your friends online, but entire experiences and adventures."

Jimmy Kimmel Live took this a step farther and imagined what a virtual reality Facebook where you could interact with your old high school friends might look like. Kimmel says they received a prototype from Facebook of what it will be like.

Jimmy Kimmel puts on the Oculus VR headset and enters the Facebook virtual world. An old friend shows Kimmel lots of baby photographs. He gets poked by a woman and a man starts warning him about Canadians crossing the border to steal our jobs. A Farmville user is desperate for carrots. It becomes way too much for Kimmel and he has to remove the Oculus VR headset. Take a look:
