Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI) and AltaVista Company have announced the development of a regional portal site for the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region using AltaVista's Homebase technology. The new site will combine the local news and community information from The Washington Post and washingtonpost.com with popular personalization and portal features from AltaVista.

"We see enormous value in providing a full-featured regional portal site to the greater Washington, D.C., market," said Marc Teren, president and publisher, Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive. "It is the next logical step in meeting our commitment to serve the local community. AltaVista Homebase provides the means for us to extend our relationship with users and offer them a new range of exciting services."
