Posted on March 7, 2016

Hockey great Wayne Gretzky, number 99, is writing a book about hockey. The book will be published by G.P. Putnam & Sons in the U.S., and by Viking Canada in Canada. Gretzky will co-write the book with Kirstie McLellan Day, the bestselling hockey author. The release of the book will coincide with the 99th anniversary of the National Hockey League in fall of 2016.

The book will be told as a series of reflections by Gretzky on the history of the game and insights into how he sees the game. Gretzky will really open up in the book, talking about how he got inspired and motivated to play and how he in turn has tried to inspire young people to playing hockey. Gretsky said, "Hockey has a rich history full of great characters and stories. I thought that the 99th anniversary of the NHL would be a great time to give my take on some of the great moments of this amazing gameā€¦things I have only shared with my friends, family and teammates."

McLellan Day has a number of bestsellers to her name, and is one of the world's top sports writers. She co-wrote Theo Fleury's Playing With Fire, which spent a full year atop the bestseller lists. She said, "I'm really excited about working with Wayne Gretzky. It's such a privilege to be on Wayne Gretzky's team. I can't believe I get to be his winger."

Wayne Gretzky was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and is one of the greatest players ever to play the game. Wayne holds or shares 61 NHL records: 40 for the regular season, 15 for the Stanley Cup playoffs and six for the NHL All-Star Game, including Most Points, Most Points, Including Playoffs, Most Goals, Most Assists, and many, many more. This book will be a must-read for any hockey or sports fan.
