William Mann to Publish Barbra Streisand Biography

Posted on May 25, 2010

William Mann is writing a Barbra Streisand biography called Hello, Gorgeous: The Beginnings of Barbra Streisand (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). The biography will be published in fall 2012 to coincide with Streisand's 50th anniversary in show business. The book will cover Streisand's childhood, the birth of her career in Greenwich Village, the recording of her early albums and her stage and screen success.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Senior Executive Editor, George Hodgman, says in a statement. "All of Streisandia, of which I am a founding resident, has been waiting for the real, class-act Barbara bio. William Mann has set out to do nothing less than a book that will stand the test of time as the definitive record and truly a portrait of an artist."

Hodgman also says previous books about the actress and singer have "failed to capture the importance and influence of this woman, her complex personality and the dimensions of her artistic drive."

Update: The title was altered slightly before publication. The final title is Hello, Gorgeous: Becoming Barbra Streisand.
