William Morrow to Publish Courtney Love Memoir

Posted on September 29, 2011

William Morrow announced that it will publish a memoir by Courtney Love. Now, we all know Courtney won't be writing her own book, of course. Her editor has wisely chosen New York Times bestselling author Anthony Bozza to do the actual writing. We hope they are paying him a lot of money for this gig.

Morrow Deputy Publisher Lynn Grady acquired the rights from agent David Vigliano. Grady said, "Courtney is one of the most fascinating and provocative artists of our time, one of those rare performers who continues to reinvent herself time and again throughout the arc of her career. It's time for the public to hear her tell her story, as she lived it."

Here is the description of the memoir from Morrow. The publisher says it is "no-holds-barred."

The as yet untitled memoir will offer a no-holds-barred look into Love's life from childhood to the present day. Born to hippies and coming of age in the 60s and 70s, she was the prototypical "wild child," with an early history of juvenile delinquency and drug abuse, who eventually found refuge in the alternative music scene. Her relationship with Cobain placed them at the forefront of "grunge," a new musical movement-and as a result, into the middle of the American pop culture spotlight. While both artists were unapologetically anti-celebrity, many of their personal and professional dramas unfolded on the national stage, making headlines across the country. Here, for the first time, Love finally sets the record straight about their tumultuous marriage, her history of drug abuse and subsequent recovery, and her relationship with daughter, Frances Bean.

In addition to focusing on her career, she will also talk openly and candidly about her career in Hollywood, including highly-publicized relationships with Billy Corgan and Ed Norton. True to form, Love will hold nothing back in the telling of her life story, making this one of the most powerful, important, and most highly anticipated rock and roll memoirs of all time.

You know this one's going to be a fascinating read.

Update 9-4-15: Courtney is being sued by her co-writer after struggling to finish the memoir, which Rolling Stone says is a disaster. It has been given the name, The Girl With the Most Cake.
