Women.com Networks, Inc., an online destination for women, has announced a joint venture with National Magazine Company (NatMags), a subsidiary of Hearst Corporation in the United Kingdom. uk.women.com will pair Women.com's Internet expertise with National Magazine's knowledge of UK women. Women.com's entry into the UK market follows licensing agreements formed in the past year in Japan, Latin America, Korea and Malaysia to localize versions of the company's content and community for women online.
uk.women.com is expected to launch later this year. The partnership represents National Magazine Company's largest online venture to date. The new site will include NatMags' popular women's publications, including Company, Cosmopolitan, Zest, She, Good Housekeeping, Harpers & Queen, House Beautiful, Country Living, Having a Baby and Buy the Best.
``With diverse needs and interests, women around the world demand different experiences from the Web,'' said David Brandin, senior vice president, international, Women.com. ``Through joint ventures, we are tapping into a huge global market of women online to provide content that is localized to capture cultural nuances.''
``By combining the best magazine brands for women from NatMags with Women.com's expertise in building the most-visited women's site online, the venture will give us important definition in a rapidly expanding market,'' said Deputy Managing Director of National Magazines, Duncan Edwards. ``It won't be long before uk.women.com becomes an essential site for the growing number of women using the Web for information and entertainment.''
