Working Mother Magazine Appoints New Editors

Working Mother magazine, a WorkingWoman Network Inc. publication, has announced key appointments to its editorial staff.

``These new editors bring Working Mother an extraordinary base of experience and expertise on the issues that affect women's lives,'' said Lisa Benenson, Working Mother's new editor-in-chief, who was appointed to the post in January. ``They further support our long-standing commitment to serious journalism on work and family issues.''

Benenson, as previously announced, brings her nearly 20 years of publishing experience to direct Working Mother magazine's editorial content. Prior to joining Working Mother, she was most recently news director at Good Housekeeping, where she worked since 1996. During her career in publishing, Benenson has worked for such publications as The Boston Globe, Newsday, Newsweek International, The Denver Post, and Parenting.

As executive editor, Sharlene Breakey is responsible for executing the editor-in-chief's vision of Working Mother, including supervising all editors and overseeing all processes of the magazine. Breakey brings to Working Mother a unique blend of more than 12 years of Internet, publishing and entrepreneurial experience. Most recently, she worked as a consulting editor for such publications as Glamour and Nick Jr., Nickelodeon's new parent-child magazine. Additionally, she consulted The Knot, an online wedding destination, on producing its first magazine, Wedding Gowns. Previously, Breakey served as both executive editor and managing editor of New Woman magazine.

As managing editor, Jo Ann Liguori is responsible for maximizing and synchronizing all day-to-day operations of Working Mother, including copy flow, production, fact-checking, and shipping and fulfillment scheduling. Liguori previously served as Managing Editor of Mode magazine where she supervised the editorial, production and copy departments. Prior to Mode, she managed the production and copyediting departments as copy chief of Good Housekeeping magazine.

Sharman Stein and Jackie Day Packel have been named senior editors of Working Mother. Both are responsible for conceiving, assigning and editing feature stories -- Stein, with a focus on special editions and advocacy issues, and Packel with a concentration in the financial and business markets. Stein brings more than 20 years of publishing industry experience to her role as senior editor for Working Mother, where she conceives, assigns and edits features and departments of the magazine, with a focus on special projects and advocacy issues. Previously, Stein served as managing editor of The New York Times Upfront, a magazine for high school students that is a joint project with The New York Times and Scholastic, Inc.

With more than 10 years of publishing industry experience, Packel was most recently a writer for Sam's Teach Yourself Today -- ePersonal Finance, published by Macmillan press in March 2000. Previously, she served as associate editor of SmartMoney magazine, where she originated the ``CEO Interview'' column, and wrote full-length, feature stories as well as the ``Ask SmartMoney'' Q&A column.
