Writers Hired to Pen Justice League Movie

Posted on February 23, 2007

Warner Bros has hired writers Kiernan and Michele Mulroney to write the script for its upcoming Justice League of America movie. The franchise, which is owned by D.C. Comics focuses on the adventures of a superhero team which consists of Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Aquaman, the Flash, the Green Lantern and the Martian Manhunter.

Development of the film is complicated by the fact that Warner has already revived its Batman and Superman film franchises, with Christian Bale's Batman Begins and the upcoming The Dark Knight and Brandon Routh's Superman Returns and its upcoming sequel. The studio is also developing a Wonder Woman film.

Filmmakers Chris Nolan (Batman Begins) and Bryan Singer (Superman Returns) are each on board to helm the next installments in the two respective franchises. The Dark Knight is eyeing a 2008 release, and the next Superman is slated for 2009.

The JLA has spawned several cartoon TV series, including the 1960s and '70s show Super Friends and the Cartoon Network series Justice League Unlimited, from Warner Brothers Animation.

We agree that it's going to be extremely complicated to do a live action of the Justice League with all the other superhero films around. Will there be any continuity with the Batman and Superman films? And who will play Batman and Superman? The other problem is having so many superheroes in the cast. The Fantastic Four was savaged by the critics, but made enough money so that a sequel is on the way. It will be interesting to see what the writers make of the project.
