Yahooligans Launches Monthly Book Club for Children
Posted on April 25, 2003
Yahooligans!, Yahoo!'s Web guide for kids, is featuring a monthly celebrity book recommendation. The program kicks off with Tony Hawk's selection, the modern classic The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Odd Tales by Jon Scieszka.
Many of the books children read are recommendations from teachers, parents and their peers. Yahooligans! is working with celebrities such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Michelle Kwan, Picabo Street, Lance Bass and Tony Hawk, to reach children and motivate them to read.
Pro skateboarder and avid reader, Tony Hawk found his selection an easy choice: "This book is a fresh, witty take on traditional fairy tales. It also bends the rules of storytelling, capturing the attention of readers and opening them up to an entirely new world of books."
"Reading is one of the fundamental skills in life, opening up new avenues of education and entertainment," said Jason Hovey, senior producer, Yahooligans! "Yahooligans strives to make learning a fun and exciting activity for children, and the new Book Club program will encourage kids to explore the world of reading with well-known celebrities and a host of interactive features."
The Yahooligans! Book Club has an interactive feature where kids can share their desire to read by emailing the celebrity book review to their parents. Kids will also have the ability to post their own review of the celebrity's recommended book.
The 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan is sponsoring the first three months of the Yahooligans! Book Club as part of a launch campaign focused on family and the family experience. As the title sponsor of the Yahooligans! Book Club, the Toyota Sienna will have exclusive presence throughout the Book Club area of Yahooligans!. Additionally, Toyota Sienna advertisements will be featured on the home page mantle of Yahoo! and will be included in the emails kids send to their parents requesting books from their wish list.
