ZDNet and MSNBC Form Content Exchange Alliance

Posted on November 12, 1997

ZDNet and MSNBC on the Internet jointly announced a content exchange alliance, effective immediately. The alliance allows ZDNet and MSNBC to increase the scope of their leading Web-based news services by strategically incorporating each other's news content and collaborating on major stories.

According to recent results from the Interactive Media Study, an annual study conducted for Advertising Age, the number-one online activity is the gathering of news and information. According to surveys by Media Metrix, computing and Internet-focused content tops the list of preferred news.

While the core of the ZDNet/MSNBC partnership includes co-branding news content areas and exclusively exchanging full-text stories, the most dynamic aspect of the relationship will be a major team effort between the news staffs at ZDNet and MSNBC. The new system will enable ZDNet and MSNBC to collaborate frequently and jointly cover the most important technology-related stories, to be featured on both sites. ZDNet users will also be able to reap the benefits of MSNBC's Personal News Alert -- a free service that delivers personalized news and stock quotes direct to users' desktops. Personal News Alert will also now be featuring headlines from ZDNN. In addition to ZDNet's technology news, MSNBC will offer its audience a ZDNet Technology Zone, including timely product reviews, shopping advice, free downloads and commentary produced by Ziff-Davis' staff of over 500 editors and writers covering technology.
