Ziff-Davis Announces Departure of Donald J. Byrnes

Posted on September 22, 1998

Claude Sheer, President of ZD Publishing, announced that Donald J. Byrnes, a founding member of the Ziff-Davis computer publishing group, will be leaving to take a job outside the company. Effective Friday, September 25, Byrnes will become COO of Carat Freeman Business, reporting directly to company President Ellen Freeman.

A 15-year Ziff-Davis veteran, Byrnes began his career with the company as part of the original launch team behind the highly successful PC Week, which Ziff-Davis started in 1983. Since then, he has served in a variety of positions, rising from regional sales manager to Executive Vice President, Group Publisher of Ziff-Davis' two flagship publications -- PC Magazine and PC Week. A superb manager and motivator, Byrnes is widely recognized as having played a significant leadership role in developing and expanding Ziff-Davis' extraordinary current presence in the high tech marketplace.

Sheer said, "Don has had a tremendous career both here at ZD and in computer publishing. He has made enormous and enduring contributions to our company. And he has deep personal roots here, so this was not an easy decision for him to make or for me to accept. Fortunately, we'll continue to work with Don in his new capacity, and we look forward to that. But his leadership, his warmth and his humor will be sorely missed. We wish him nothing but the best."
