Posted on August 30, 2000
Ziff Davis Custom Media, the custom and contract media solutions unit of Ziff Davis Media Inc., has signed an agreement with Aquent of Boston, Mass., to produce 1099 Magazine, a publication aimed directly at independent professionals (IPs). 1099 Magazine will be evolving from a webzine to a print publication.
1099 Magazine is a magazine for and about self-employed professionals. The magazine provides a mix of entertainment, instruction and interaction. Some articles focus on practical business topics such as saying no to clients and managing their finances. Others profile successful independent professionals (IPs) from a variety of professional backgrounds.
The magazine is scheduled to debut in January 2001 with a quarterly frequency. The premiere issue of 1099 will feature an 84-page folio for distribution to 40,000 individuals. They have been selected from circulation files of existing Ziff Davis Media magazines and newspapers based on their demographic profile. Additionally, a portion of the circulation will come from 1099's database. Circulation will increase by 10,000 copies with each subsequent issue.
Ziff Davis Custom Media Publisher Cameron Brown said, ``Not only will 1099 Magazine help independent professionals manage their businesses, but it will also connect potential vendors to this growing but disperse business market. We are thrilled to be working with 1099 because nobody knows this market better than Aquent.''
``Surveys by Aquent and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that 20 percent of the domestic workforce is comprised of independent professionals and we know that Ziff Davis has the strength of circulation excellence to help 1099 reach them,'' said Mia Wenjen, Publisher of 1099. ``1099 Magazine will speak to each of these independent professionals, helping them build and manage their business, and find vital financial services such as health insurance or billing support.''
